Before Hiring a Photographer
As you plan for your wedding, it’s very important to have the same vision as your photographer. Often engaged couples feel overwhelmed and forget to discuss details with the photographer. In some cases, they didn’t get enough family group photos, father and church staff photos, or photos for significant moments. Here’s how to fix the issue.
Get to Know Your Photographer Better
First thing first, you need to know your photographer. Think about him or her as the main person who will document your holy matrimony. That being said, the photographer needs to understand what you value most.
From my experiences, I learned that different couples put importance on different things. Some, like me, value family above all. They would rather have pictures celebrating with their loved ones rather than some couple photos. Another values devotions and prayers. They would cherish photos with sacred art, rosaries, and inside the church.
Get Your Expectations Aligned
Most couples worry about the budget. Weddings are expensive and photography is just an additional expense. Yet, this is not true.
Above all else, holy matrimony is about a sacred union. It’s between you and your future spouse, but wait… also with God! Yes, there are 3 people in your relationship. And so, no matter how perfect you want your wedding to be, the ultimate decision depends on God.
Having that established, now is the right time to reflect. Both you and fiance have to discuss what is the most important for you two.
Get to Know Your Photographer's Process
Most photographers research before the wedding day. What it means is that the photographer is responsible for going to the church, to ask a few questions, and to note them. They should know if they can use flash or not, they should know if they can take pictures in certain areas, and more importantly, they should know the lighting of the area.
However, not all photographers do that. The worst thing that can happen is that they would not understand the procedure of a Catholic mass. As such, they would disrupt the flow and the reverence.
Trust in Jesus with All Your Heart
Finally, I suggest you both pray for the photography services. This will help you to prepare your heart when you ask the questions. A Catholic photographer can also pray together with you two, as you ask God’s blessing for the upcoming day.
